Setting Up The D-Link Wifi Router From A Mobile Phone


To set up D-Link WiFi routers, you need the following things:

  1. D-Link Wireless router
  2. Working Internet connection
  3. A PC or a Laptop or a mobile phone
  4. Ethernet cable
  5. Power cable

Almost every guide available on the Internet mentions that you need a PC or laptop to set up D-Link WiFi routers. This guide is unique in the sense that we are not going to use a computer to set up the D-Link WiFi router. Instead, we’re going to set it up completely using a mobile phone.

Connecting the D-Link router to the power supply

Once you have gathered all the required devices and equipment, you can now proceed to turn on the D-Link WiFi router. Connect the D-Link WiFi router to a power cable. This power cable should be manufactured by D-Link or a good and well-known company which produces good quality power supplies. Using A substandard power charger for the D-Link WiFi router may result in improper operation or random hiccups.

Connect the D-Link router to the Ethernet port provided by the internet service provider. Usually, in this step, most of the guides ask you to connect it to a computer or a laptop and see if the internet connection is working or not, but in this case, since we don’t have access to a computer, there is no way for us to check if the internet connection is working or not. You may have to contact the internet service provider in case your net doesn’t work in a later stage.

Turn on the WiFi router and wait for it to complete the process of initialisation. WiFi routers take some time to get initialised when they are turned on for the first time. Once the WiFi router completes initialisation, you have to connect your mobile to the WiFi network off D-Link WiFi router.

If you’re using an Android device, you have to navigate to the settings application and open the wireless networks option. There you will find the list of available WiFi networks, and you have to find the one that is created from D-Link. Connect only to the network that is set up by your own WiFi router to avoid your privacy from getting compromised.

Once you are connected to the WiFi network, to open the web browser from your Android or iOS device and visit to access the local IP address of your private WiFi network, this is the address where you can find the D-Link configuration website.

If the setting of your WiFi router for the first time, you will be shown a welcome screen and you can proceed to select the type of internet connection that is available for your D-Link WiFi router. Most probably, you might be using a PPPoE connection if you are connecting to the internet WiFi and ethernet cable or dial-up connection.

Once you have gained access to the administrative control panel, the process is simple from here. You have to set the SSID and password of your WiFi network and complete some other simple steps to set up the WiFi network from your D-Link WiFi router.

Test out the network of D-Link WiFi router

Now that you have successfully completed the setup process, there is one small thing that you need to do before you can connect all the devices to the WiFi network.

Using this ID and password of the WiFi network that you entered in the previous step, connect a wireless device to your D-Link WiFi router’s network and see if you can access the private network or the internet through it. If you are able to see the devices available on the same network or access the internet, then the setup process is now complete.
